“Whatever is connected to water is itself holy, because it gives you life” Anupam Mishra, The Gandhi Peace Foundation
The Holiwater Project is about connection. As a media vehicle the project helps create and stimulate alliances between organizations with the aim to inform, inspire and interact around the environmental partner’s campaign directives. The project has been effective in drawing broad reaching media coverage because of it’s unique conceptual framework which is designed to entertain and engage on both an arts and action level. This in turn encourages growth for the partnered organizations in the promotion of sustainable management practices; affecting communities, corporate bodies and governmental policy by directly engaging a participatory approach with the project that requires attention, funding or action.
The river is a metaphor for the life blood of the planet. The music, performance and film are ways of expressing that deep connection to nature and to reach communities east and west. Performances have been staged in specific environments often with the collaboration of environmental NGO partners who benefit from the publicity for their campaigns. The performances are celebrations which reach a wide audience demographic, raising awareness toward specific actions required on a variety of water issues from anti pollution campaigns to the promotion of traditional water harvesting techniques and innovative sewage treatment technologies.
